Three students from the Universidad del Pacífico ranked highly in the 2025 edition of this renowned, demanding program offered by Peru’s central bank. Braulio Carbajal finished first in the Advanced Finance Summer Course, followed by Kevin Risco in second spot. Meanwhile, Joseph Amaya secured third place in the Advanced Economics Summer Course.
The BCRP courses are designed to provide intensive training for the brightest university talents in Peru, while disseminating the state of the art in economics and finance and identifying future professionals who can join the BCRP technical team.
Advance preparation and engagement during the course
For the three UP students, the preparation process was as challenging as it was enriching. "It was, without a doubt, the most demanding academic experience I have had," said Braulio Carbajal of the three-month academic schedule. “The pressure is constant and demands both academic and emotional strength. In this respect, the support of my friends and family was key.”
Kevin Risco, for his part, stressed that in the run-up he focused on mental preparation as much as the technical review of key topics and past exams. “What helped me most was talking to former students and learning first-hand about their experiences. Also, in the previous beforehand I tried to maintain good mental clarity and balance to start the course with focus and energy," he concluded.
Joseph Amaya agreed that discipline and planning were important in tackling the Advanced Economics course. "I thoroughly reviewed the fundamentals I learned in the degree program, but I also learned to recognize when it was appropriate to take a break," he said.
A challenging and transformative experience
The three students agreed that learning goes beyond results. “It is reassuring to know that all the effort was worth it,” stressed Joseph. Braulio, on the other hand, noted the value of the holistic experience: "It was gratifying to see my effort pay off, but the most valuable thing was the people I met, from colleagues to teachers."
For Kevin, finishing so highly may have been a source of personal satisfaction but it is also an achievement he shares with his family. "Beyond the result, it meant overcoming demanding challenges and confirming that, with effort and perseverance, great things can be achieved."
As well as testing the students’ knowledge, participating in this prestigious program sparked new academic and professional concerns. “I finished the course with more questions than answers, and that's a positive. Intellectual discomfort pushes you to keep on learning,” Braulio reflected.
Training at the UP: a robust and difference-making grounding
All three students acknowledged that the preparation they received at Universidad del Pacífico was instrumental in their academic accomplishment. “The strong grounding in economic theory and the analytical skills developed in the degree program were essential,” noted Joseph.
For his part, Braulio praised the university's comprehensive approach for equipping him with the tools to compete at the same level as high-performing students from Peru and elsewhere. "But I think the small details make the difference: the training in values, leadership, and soft skills was also decisive," he said.
Kevin agreed that the UP's academic demands were decisive in his learning to carry out fast, rigorous, and well-supported analyses. "That ability to respond with a clear head under pressure was vital to me in an environment as demanding as the course."
For the three students from the Faculty of Economics and Finance, this experience will mark a turning point in their trajectories. "Thanks to this achievement, I will have the opportunity to continue learning alongside the best economists in the country," acknowledged Joseph.
For Kevin, "this achievement represents an important boost in my career path. It reinforces my technical profile and sends a clear message about my level of preparation and commitment.”
Meanwhile, Braulio encouraged other students to apply: "The BCRP is an institution that is committed to meritocracy and knowledge. In addition, the connections that you make in this environment are for life.”
We at the Universidad del Pacífico congratulate our three students and proudly stress our commitment to continue forming leaders with purpose who can meet the needs of the country.
