Professional Profile

Director of the Research Center and senior professor at Universidad del Pacífico Academic Department of Economics. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University (United States) and a Licentiate title in Economics from Universidad del Pacífico.
His scientific production on labor economics, poverty, education and social policies in Peru and abroad including papers, books and book chapters has been published. He is ranked among the Top 5% researchers in the world in well-known rankings of publications and academic references.
In addition, he is board member of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, member of the National Education Council of Peru, member of various ministerial and private advisory committees and monthly columnist in the economic section of El Comercio newspaper. He is President of the Advisory Board of the “Ponte en Carrera” Labor and Educational Observatory and fellow researcher at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn, Germany.
He has been Dean of the School of Economics and Finance at Universidad del Pacífico, Vice Minister of Social Promotion at the Ministry of Labor, Senior Economist at the Inter-American Development Bank, Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund and director of the Instituto Peruano de Acción Empresarial (Peruvian Institute of Business Action). He has also been awarded the “Orden del Trabajo del Perú” in the degree of Commander.
He is member of the Latin American and the Caribbean Economic Association as well as the Peruvian Economic Association. He is also an associate of Fe y Alegría in Peru.
