  • Aimed at
    Students in 5th year of secondary school interested in applying to Universidad del Pacífico through the Selective Admission process, Direct Entry on Academic Merit or Direct entry for Baccalaureate Graduates. Also aimed at the general public.​

  • Aim of the workshop

    To provide participants with fundamental tools for writing formal texts, such as essays.​

  • Workshop Contents

    Session I
    • Thinking and Language: Discourse organization
    • Organization of information in a text
    • Discrimination: main and secondary ideas
    • Introduction, body and conclusions
    • Discourse markers: variations on how to introduce the topic of a text. Examples.
    • Logical structure: order and content of ideas
    Session II
    • Essays: form, structure and content
    • Type of register. The formal register.
    • Use of the third person
    • Discourse markers: proceeding to a new topic. Examples.
    • ​Discourse markers: continuing in the same topic. Examples.
    Session III​
    • Reading as a model for writing
    • Discourse markers: references
    • Discourse markers: linkers for distinction, emphasis, etc.
    Session IV
    • Stages of the writing process: intellection, invention, arrangement and writing
    • The layout
    • The definition: noun base and complements​
