The objective of this series is to publish studies in lines of research pursued by this center in order to share findings and promote an exchange of ideas that could contribute to future publications. It will be composed of documents prepared by the direction, research affiliates and invited experts. The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Peru, His Excellency Mr. Liang Yu, was invited by the President of UP, Dr. Felipe Portocarrero, to a meeting at the university to inform him about the work accomplished by the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies of UP. The Vice President for Research, her predecessor, and the Director of the Center also participated.
From October 18-November 6, 2019, Dr. Rosario Santa Gadea visited China to establish and/or strengthen ties with academics in this country. The yearly academic missions constitute one of the Center’s main strategies in its quest to develop relations with prestigious Chinese universities and think tanks. These initiatives have spurred joint activities in China and Peru.
On October 22, 2019, the Ambassador of Peru to China, His Excellency Mr. Luis Quesada, received Dr. Rosario Santa Gadea and Dr. Zhang Yuyan, Director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, at his residence in Beijing. Both academics informed the Ambassador about the book underway on Finding a Way to Avoid the Middle Income Trap: The Cases of China and Peru.
Our Center and the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences conduct the research titled: "Finding a Way to Avoid the Middle Income Trap: The Cases of China and Peru" which is in hands of academic of both countries. On November 25th and 26th 2019, the International Workshop to discuss the drafts of the chapters of the book in process was held in Universidad del Pacífico
On August 20th 2019, the International Symposium “The Transformation of the Chinese Economy: Four Decades of Reforms and Internationalization and What Comes Next?” was held. It was organized by the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies of Universidad del Pacífico, together with the School of Economics and the China Center for Economic Studies of Fudan University, a prestigious Chinese University located in Shanghai.
The director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies, Rosario Santa Gadea, holds a Doctorate and a Master’s Degree in International Economics from Université Paris Ouest, Nanterre La Défense. Dr. Santa Gadea is also a researcher and coordinator of the Economics, Business and International Relations Area at Universidad del Pacífico Research Center (CIUP). Favio Leiva, Master of Arts in International Development, Nagoya University, Japan and Bachelor in Economics from Universidad del Pacífico is the assistant.
