The Inter-American Universities Organization (OUI) was created in 1980 under the initiative of university rectors or presidents from Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the United States and other countries from Latin America.
Its objective is to create a network of higher education institutions of America that promotes the development of national systems and of every institution in the fields of education, research, strategic planning and management; the exchange of professors, students and researchers, etc.; the new financing models and ways of answering to the demands of their social and cultural environments. OUI has more than 350 members - public or private institutions - as well as National Rectors or Universities Conferences or Councils.
Institute of University Management and Leadership (IGLU)
In 1983 OUI created the Institute of University Management and Leadership (IGLU), which is responsible for organizing activities about reflection, profesional improvement or education for the directing body of member universities interested in developing or updating their knowledge in adminsitration according to the most recent concepts in organizational management. These activities are conceived according to the principles of OUI: inter-Americanism, integration in the socio-cultural context, interuniversity cooperation but with autonomy of the institutions and responsibility.
The Institute of University Management and Leadership (IGLU) plays its role under the framework of OUI, by delegation of the General Assembly and the Board of the organization. The institute has five national components:

The Regional IGLU Centers and Councils
The IGLU General and Executive Coordinators
The IGLU Regional Coordinators
The IGLU Network and the IGLU Centers
The institute is a Network formed by autonomous CENTERS. Every Center works under the authority of a Regional IGLU Council, presided by the Regional OUI Vice-president or the National Counselor.
The Institute of University Management and Leadership (IGLU) has five main working instruments:

IGLU Notebooks about university management
Seminars and Workshops are directed to managers of different university areas, their specific goals are:
Update or acquire administration skills that correspond with the latest regulations for organizational management.
Full command of new management methods.
Get familiar with management schemes adopted by other institutions, on an experimental or regular basis.
Experience new management practices with colleagues from other institutions of other countries.
Reflect about administration and its techniques in the global context of university modernization.
