Visas

VISAS POR STUDENTS COMING TO PERU

A.- OFFICIAL VISAS.-
THESE ARE THE VISAS UNIVERSIDAD DEL PACIFICO PROCESSES AND RECOMMENDS FOR ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.
According to Peruvian immigration regulations, applications for Official Visas will have to be filed by the Universidad del Pacífico on your behalf.

Please, remember:
Universidad del Pacífico will apply for official visas directly to Peruvian immigration authorities.

The visa procedure is as follows:
- Universidad del Pacífico (UP) sends the students Letter of Acceptance to the Coordinator in all partner Universities. This is usually done at (or right after) the deadline for reception of students documents here at UP.
- UP sends the students data and passport number to the National Assembly of University Presidents/Rectors (ANR in Spanish).
- The ANR supervises the applications and sends the appropriate information and approval to the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- The Ministry approves your official visas and communicates with the Peruvian Embassy or Consulate in YOUR country.
- Students will be notified by our office by email when their Official Visas are ready so they can contact the nearest Peruvian Embassy or Consulate. In some countries like Germany there are several Peruvian Consulates (Official Consulates only, Honorary Consulates are NOT allowed to extend Official nor Students Visas). Embassies and Consulates may also ask students for more or other documents like Letter of nomination extended by home universities. Students are advised to ask them before going to get your Visas.
- The Peruvian Embassy or Consulate issues an official visa valid for 90 (ninety) days, starting on arrival to Peru. This visa is FREE OF CHARGE. Students usually have their official visas stamped in their passports on the same day that they go to the Embassy or Consulate.

THIS WHOLE PROCEDURE TAKES ABOUT TWO WEEKS BUT IT IS BEST TO CONSIDER MORE AND THAT IS WHY WE APPLY ABOUT 4 WEEKS BEFORE THE AUTHORIZED ARRIVAL DATES.

OFFICIAL VISA EXTENSIONS:
- When you arrive in Peru and this 90 day visa is about to expire, you leave your passport with us and UP will apply to the ANR and the Ministry to extend your visa, usually valid until the end of the semester. If you wish to extend your stay after the end of the semester it is best to mention that when you leave your passport here.
This extension is made through our International Office and is FREE OF CHARGE.

B.- STUDENTS VISAS.-

The visa procedure is as follows:

- Universidad del Pacífico (UP) sends a Letter of Acceptance to your Coordinator in your University. This is usually done at (right after) the deadline for reception of your documents here in UP.
- Students wishing to apply for a Students Visa must go to the nearest Peruvian Consulate and apply for a students visa with the Letter of Acceptance issued and sent by the International Office of the Universidad del Pacífico. In some countries like Germany there are several Peruvian Consulates (Official Consulates only, Honorary Consulates are NOT allowed to extend Official nor Students Visas). Consulates may also ask students for more or other documents like the Letter of Nomination extended by your home universities.
- Students pay for their Students Visa. The usual cost of a Students visa is around 30 to 40 US$. In Europe this price could be changed to Euros, meaning you may be charged around 30 to 40 Euros.
- The Peruvian Consulate issues an Students Visa valid for 90 (ninety) days, starting on arrival to Peru. The procedure may take one day only or several, depending on the Consulate where you go.
- When you arrive in Peru and this 90 day Students Visa is about to expire, our International Office issues a new Letter of Acceptance (In Spanish) that you will take to the Peruvian Immigration office and apply for your students visa extensions. Our office can also give you the form you will have to complete to extend your visa.
- Students will also need a copy of the passport data page, certified by their country Consulate in Lima. If their country does not have a consulate in Lima you will certainly not be able to extend your Students Visa. We do not have information about the cost of this copy certification, it varies in every Consulate/Country Representation.
- Students pay for the Students Visa Extensions at any branch of Banco de la Nacion (National Bank). They will have to pay around US$ 30.00 for the visa extension. It usually is extended until the end of the semester according to the dates registered in the new Letter of Acceptance issued in Lima for this purpose.

IMPORTANT.- IF YOU ARE COMING BEFORE THE AUTHORIZED DATES OF ARRIVAL FOUND IN THE DOCUMENTS SENT TO YOU PREVIOUSLY, YOU WILL HAVE TO APPLY FOR A STUDENTS VISA.

B.- TOURISTS VISAS.- UNIVERSIDAD DEL PACIFICO RECOMMENDS STUDENTS NOT TO COME WITH TOURISTS VISAS AS THEIR STAY COULD HAVE SOME IMMIGRATION PROBLEMS HERE.

- Any Tourist gets a 90 day Visa on arrival, at the Peruvian Immigration desk at the Local Airport or any port of entry (Peruvian international borders, etc). Tourists visas are free of charge.
- To extend a Tourist visa, international visitors have to apply at the Peruvian Immigration Office in Lima and pay around US$ 30.00 for the extension (at the Banco de la Nacion again), which allows them to stay in the country for 30 DAYS MORE. If they wish to extend it again they will have to pay again and will get 30 days more. There are no longer extensions for a Tourist Visa.
- Visitors wishing to change their Visa status from Tourist to Student (for example) have to ask our office for a new Letter of Acceptance in Spanish and apply in the same way and pay the same amount as a Students Visa holder.
- IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE STATUS FROM TOURIST TO OFFICIAL VISA.
- Besides the regular cost for visa extensions, changes of Visa Status cost between US$200.00 to US$350.00 depending on the case. Students will have to pay the largest part of this amount after their applications have been approved.
- To change their visa status and receive their NEW Visa, students will have to leave the country to a nearby country or a city in a neighbor country close to the border with Peru where they will get have new visa stamped, provided there is a Peruvian Consulate in that city/border. Immigration officers at borders and ports of entry are not authorized to change Visa Status.
