Universidad del Pacífico, through its Research Center (CIUP as in the Spanish acronym), is conducting a study to measure whether bribery prevention is currently part of the corporate culture of companies operating in Peru.
Among the benefits of the study is that, once concluded, the information generated can be used as a baseline to monitor the progress of the actions that companies are undertaking to prevent and combat bribery. "In order to manage something, you have to measure what situation you find yourself in initially. Otherwise, you will not know the impact of the actions you are implementing", said María Ángela Prialé, Professor and researcher at Universidad del Pacífico. Along the same lines, she explained that executives of companies operating in Peru, who have anonymously filled out a virtual survey, are already participating in this study. However, she said that greater involvement of executives is required to obtain more accurate results.
This study is part of a larger project, promoted by the PRME-Principles for Responsible Management Education, which is carried out simultaneously in 10 Latin American and Caribbean countries: Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. In addition, it has the background of Colombia, a country that has been carrying out this measurement for more than 5 years. In the latter case, the results obtained have been very positive because of the broad participation of businessmen, who have demonstrated their commitment in the fight for anti-corruption practices, explained Matilde Schwalb, Researcher and Director of the Center for Leadership, Ethics and Social Responsibility at Universidad del Pacífico.
The rate of institutionalization of bribery, which this study aims to calculate, is built around three components: the knowledge of anti-bribery rules, the efforts made by companies to combat bribery, and the perception of the frequency with which bribery is used in the sector where the company develops; said Schwalb.
"The study is underway, so we call on the business sector to participate by responding to the online questionnaire. This questionnaire has been sent to executives through their different business associations", emphasized Prialé.
