"Progress and Challenges of rendering Infrastructure in Latin America "

Conference on experiences and perspectives on regulation in Peru and South America, scheduled as part of the activities of the LAURIN project. This conference will be held at the University of the Pacific facilities on October 2nd, and will count with renown international speakers, as well as with national lecturers who stand out for their work and contributions on regulatory policy and representatives of the main regulatory agencies and regulated companies, among others.

Twenty well-known experts from Latin America and the United States will gather in Lima, between October 2nd and 3rd at the facilities of the University of the Pacific to discuss issues related to infrastructure, privatization, and regulation. The event has been divided into two phases: the first one, on Thursday October 2nd will be, a conference for the general public interested in this topic. The second one, on Friday 3rd, a closed conference for all network members, in order to evaluate and analyze progress made. Among the experts that will take part: Jose Gómez-Ibáñez and Mary Hilderbrand of Harvard University; Ronald Fischer, Pablo Serra and Patricio Meller of Chile; Santiago Urbiztondo of Argentina; André Rossi of Brazil; and Mauricio Cardenas and Marcela Melendez of Colombia. Peru will be represented by Alejandro Chang and Roberto Urrunaga (UP- OSITRAN), Sergio Salinas and José Luis Bonifaz (UP - SUNASS), and Paul Phumpiu (OSIPTEL), Jose Gallardo (OSINERG), and Jorge Fernandez Baca (University of the Pacific).
The Infrastructure, Privatization, and Regulatory Network was created by the IDB Investment Multilateral Fund, with support from the Center for Business and Government of John F. Kennedy School of Government (KSG) at Harvard University. University of the Pacific was selected among 30 universities in Latin America to join such an important network, which also includes FIEL of Argentina, FOPE of Brazil, University of Chile, and Los Andes University of Colombia.
The conference "Progress and Challenges of rendering Infrastructure in Latin America" is open to the general public will be held on October 2nd, from 8:30 am. to 7:30 pm. Guest experts will analyze important topics such as "The future of privatization in Latin America", "Privatizations and poverty in Peru: results and challenges", "Infrastructure Management and investment in the region: perspectives and role of the MID/IDB", "Big regulatory mistakes in Chile" and "Lessons from the road concessions design in Colombia", among others. Julio Velarde, Dean of the School of Economics at University of the Pacific, Vladimir Radovic, IDB representative to Peru and Luis Giulfo, Executive Director of Proinversion will be in charge of the opening ceremony. On the other hand, the closing words will be delivered by Roberto Manrique of the Inter.-Amercian Development Bank.
